ATTENTION HILSMAN 7TH GRADERS – NEW AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM

Would you like to learn about architecture and other design-related professions, and get to do some hands-on activities related to architecture and design?

Architectural Collaborative, the Athens Community Career Academy, and 21st Century are offering a new after school program, Foundations in Design Development.

Only 20 spaces are available for this program. If you’re interested, please sign up! The deadline is Friday, February 1.

We will meet on Wednesdays from 3:55 – 5:25pm, starting February 6 and going through May 1. Students will begin the program during the spring semester of your 7th grade year and will complete the program during the fall semester of your 8th grade year.

During the Spring you will learn about architecture, landscape architecture, interior design, planning, and computer modeling. Each week will include a brief presentation, discussion, and some sort of hands-on activity related to the week’s topic, led by a professional in their field of work. These activities will be held at the middle school immediately following school release.

When school starts back up in August, we’ll have 2 field trips to see construction projects. Then we’ll make teams, take a look at Hilsman, and work together to come up with possible solutions to design problems you identify.

To sign up for the Foundations in Design Development program, please see Ms. Seymour, the Family and Consumer Sciences teacher.

Binder Check Updates
Binder Checks are continuing for the rest of the year. However, beginning this quarter, rather than simply checking for basic school supplies, each teacher will now be checking for materials specific to that specific content area in order to ensure that students are not only bringing their binders and necessary supplies, but are now also keeping up with their notes and assignments for all of their classes. As usual, students who earn enough points by the end of each month will continue to earn a dress down day! If you are in need of supplies for your child or would like to donate supplies, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher.
